ok, so this is completely random, but Scrapheap Challenge are celebrating 200 years of the Steam Locomotive by having a mega challenge... 3 teams are competing, to make and race locomotive engines made from scrap. Who will win? Will it be Diesel, Electricity, or Steam? I gotta watch to see who becomes the champion...
How does the word "Champion" relate the the word "Champignon", french for Mushroom?

Ahhh! I would love to see that! But we don't get Scrapheap Challenge (AKA Junkyard Wars) here on a regular basis.

We got Junkyard Wars over the summer... seemed more aggressive than the UK version.
Anyway, was an excellent program! They built their three engines, some collaboration, mostly competitive, but very impressive work. Basically the diesel team got an old tractor and hooked it up to the base they had all been given. The Electrics hooked up an old airport trolley to their base. The Steam team built practically from scratch. They all ended up about the same powered engines! The competition was decided by two heats- first they had to pull at 30 tonne coach over a set track, and were timed, then they had a speed race. First heat was very impressive, ending in a DEAD HEAT between Electric and... Steam! The Diesel didn't get so far, bless 'em. Second heat, the race, was so impressive... the Electrics sounded like a milk float, but were very quick... the diesel put in a better performance than the first race, but they lost the brakes halfway through the course! They ended up coasting to a halt over a mile furtehr down the track. But the most impressive was the Steam engine, which puffed and spat its way through the race, and beat the Electric's time by two seconds! Which goes to prove that STEAM rules!
And this happy tale, on prime time holiday TV, goes to show why Starlight Express is so very popular. The UK public love steam trains!
