just a quick question. sam and i are going to canada soon and we don't have passports yet. the vital stats office in town has an expedite service option that takes 3 weeks. we're leaving in just under 4.
i've come across a lot of sites that you can get passports on really fast (for a fee, but for the cost of the experdite service the v.s. office has, it can get thru in 6-9 days) and i was just wondering if anyone knew if these sites were legit and a good deal. i would go in person over getting it online for safety reasons, but i was just wondering if anyone knew if they were a good deal or not.

i dont know about the site you went onto.. but i would def. go in person to where-ever your getting your passport.. i went to a local place that had an expedite service.. was like another 60 bucks but i got it in under two weeks..
i would maybe look around a bit more online, look for sites that have recommendations or ratings from people that have used their services.. or a telephone number you can call to ask about their service.. the more contact info they have, the more legit they should be.. easier to contact them later if they are full of bologna, you know what i mean?
im not sure you even need a passport to get into Canada.. saffi will know this though.. ill direct her to this thread if she hasn't seen it already

my mom thinks that we'll be fine with just our birth certificates. my aunt joanne went down to mexico w/o a passport fine. amtrak's website says that you need either or (passport recomended) and i know i read something on a site for going into canada, but i can't find it now. i'll just have to go look thru some more.

Hey there. I spoke to a lot of our Bods here at Cirque Du Soleil and the general opinion among the Americans is that you CAN go across the border without a passport, one of them went via Amtrak. You will need several photo ID. All said to be 100% safe you should get a passport `cos I think it kind of depends what kind of guard you get. I`ve got my Green Card and I still had trouble with a customs guy in NY the last time I came back from the UK. Which takes me back to your original question. I`m with Jouley. If you can make it to the office in person I`d do that. I hope this helps you a bit, Cheers.

sam got our tickets today, and all they need is a valid photo id and a birthcertificate. sadly, we didn't have the money to get a sleeper car even for one stretch, so we're in coach the whole way. but with out discounts it came to $478 total. not bad i think.
