My old thread is locked, so I thought I'd start a new one and bug you people with more questions. I'm in England for good now (even further away from Bochum, boohoo). Will start work here next week, if my references finally come through today that is. *tense* Anyway, back to my questions... a) Whether I like it or not, I will need a haircut some day. Are there any hairdressers you can recommend? Nothing fancy (still on a budget), just somebody who doesn't cut off my ears! Preferably somebody in Guildford, or just tell me about good hairdressers you can find in any major town/city! Hope you can help. b) Do you know of places where you can buy dark bread? And I don't mean white bread that has been toasted a bit longer. I mean something similar to this: www.marions-kochbuch.de/rezept/0987.jpgc) Where to find nice dresses? Maybe it's just not the right season yet, but most shops don't have a lot of choice, or they look like granny's dresses. d) Has anybody tried those 'last minute' meal + musical ticket offers? Are the seats so awful that you cannot see anything, or is it worth it?

ok... a) most hairdressers I've encountered are pretty good - you can pay loads for a big, posh salon like Headmasters or Tony and Guy, but the small local hairdressers are just as good, but not fashionable. The local hairdresser is likely to be more interested in looking after you as a person, giving you what you want, but the big chain will give you one of their fashionable cuts. So whichever you prefer! Fashion or friendly! b) Dark bread is one of my mother's favourite treats. Big supermarkets often carry it as a foriegn food, I think my mum's got it at Tesco before. (Safeway used to, but they don't exist anymore) Otherwise, maybe Lidl, if there is one near you? We have one local but I don't think there's that many of them around. c) Dresses are very much seasonal - I think the shops are just bringing out the spring/summer clothing now. I quite like New Look for cheap, pretty clothes, or else Primark is taking over the world - a huge Primark is about to open in Oxford Street. It scares me. d) you mean www.lastminute.com ? that is my favourite website for bookings! They are very good for theatre tickets, on the occasions I've used them (I usually get student or standby tickets tho). I've not tried the meal and theatre deals, but they look very good value!

Wow, thanks for the quick reply! Not too worried about being fashionable, just need somebody who can cut it off and add some highlights whenever I'm in the mood! I just wish they'd publish their prices outside. I always think I don't have enough money in my wallet because everything is more expensive over here! Your mother has good taste. No Lidl here, but I'll be working near Tesco's, so I'll check it out! No Primark here, but on the website it says there's one in Woking. Or I'll just wait for the new collections to come in, hmmm And yes, I meant www.lastminute.com! Might use that one for Lion King + meal. If the seats aren't good enough, I know I'll have to invest in better tickets for Wicked. (though I'm planning to do that anyway). Thanks! All questions answered, but I shall be back to ask more if I may!

Jewel: I am in Guildford practically 5 days a week at the mo so if you want to PM me questions about the place and/or need a buddy to go shopping for dresses with?! then feel free to get in touch. There are a few very good hairdressers in Guildford at the top of the high street, can't remember the names off the top of my head but I will get them for you, or you can try this: www.hairsalonsearch.co.uk/search_results.asp?search=GU1&offset=0&sf=true&newCat=originalas for dresses, It depends on what you like, but Woking is good for shops, Guildford is very good for boutiques but they are often expensive or the Friary Shopping Centre has a few shops like Topshop that do general fashions. not sure about the dark bread, as Belle says, try tescos? they usuaully have a good selection.

Hello! Thanks for the offer, will definitely get back to it! You'll wish you'd never offered to help me. ;D j/k Been to the Friary a lot, but yeah - the boutiques are quite expensive, and the other shops - like Dorothy Perkins, BHS etc don't seem to have a lot of dresses in store yet. Though BHS wasn't too bad for office shirts. Had my first day at work today, head fuming, too much information at once!

ah, I love nosing around the shops in Guildford.
Plus you have Woking down the road and Cats is coming back there on tour in a few months.
Glad you are settling in.
*hugs*

The Woking theatre is awesome...that's where I first saw Starlight and I worked there for my work experience too...and will hopefully be seeing Cats this summer there!! So, if you're looking for shows, go to the Ambassador's in Woking...but I live in Fleet so I can't offer any more help than that ;D

Might see CATS too. Housemates mentioned that they might be going, so will join if they do... Finally found dark bread by the way. They do have it at Tesco's, you were right! Just couldn't find it at first... bye bye white bread! Back to clothes: I've noticed that I left all my swimming suits in Germany. I know bikinis are easy enough to find, but has anybody spotted bikini skirts lately? Apart from those at New Look, they just won't fit me.
