One of my stories is funny, and the other one really isn't, but here goes.
I was coming back from a movie with my mom, a friend of the family and her younger daughter. We got stuck at a train crossing (one of several in my city, which is joined with a huge freight yard).
Anywho, we were sitting there, watching the cars go by. I was looking at all the grafitti when large, black, printed letters on the back of the car caught my eye.
"DO NOT HUMP"
It was on each boxcar that passed by. I think I looked it up later - I guess it's some way of hooking up the cars, or whatever. Either way, I couldn't stop laughing!
The other story is... my mom and I are convinced that trains are pretty much out to get us. When she was young, she was on a train that derailed and fell onto its side. All she remembers is absolute chaos inside (obviously). Years later she was taking driver's ed and nearly drove into the side of a train. Her teacher had to slam on the breaks! Same thing happend later with a friend. It's like she just wouldn't see it, even though it was already crossing the tracks. That doesn't happen anymore to her, thank God. But recently I was almost hit by a train when I didn't hear the whistle until the very last second. If it hadn't whistled, the back of my car would have been hit for sure.
Anyone else have any funny/scary/interesting real train stories?

Hah!
No humping the Rockies. They'll punch your lights out. Purely out of reflex, you know, but don't risk it.
Unless you're the British train.
