Know what you mean Belle. I was stuck on a tube at Kings Cross coming back from rehearsals at college when they had the fire there. All we could see and smell was the smoke as we crawled along to Euston. It was very surreal when the station opened again. Everything was whitewashed but the clock over the escalators was still visible and you could see the time it stopped when the flashover ocurred....

The Kings' Cross fire is what started my problems in the first place! I can't stand being trapped in man-made small places, but thing like natural caves, no problem. I guess it comes down to not trusting humans, because they do bloody stupid things.

Well, yesterday was interesting... My college being smack bang in the middle of where all the blasts happened. All I can say was thank god it was my late morning in, or I would have been travelling on the tube around there at the time it happened!
On my way into London Bridge at about 10.30 when my mother called and said I might not be able to get into college easily casue of 'power surges' on the tube. Then got a text from Amy-chan asking if I was ok becasue she heard the news about the explotions - though 'ok....' then tried to call my mother back, but network was busy - then knew something was going on. Found tube closed and told there was no public transport whatsoever so had to walk. Then Heather text me to say buses had blown up so tried again and finally got through to my mother for an update on what the fuck was happening - then proceeded to walk from London Bridge to Barbican, a good mile or so - took about 40 mins. Lots of confused people, lots of sirens and lots of big nearly lorry sized ambulaces everywhere (plus one stupid old Japnese lady waiting for the bus in the middle of it all...) - though Mooragte station was eeirly quiet when I walked though. Very creepy. Had to have a roll call at college - everyone fine though one student had to walk through the tunnel with the bodies so was shaken up. Watched the live updates on a tv in the canteen so saw all the gory footage they later edited out. Horrific. Had to stay in college, many younger juniors panicking becasue they read 'barbaric' as 'barbican'. Oy. Then got told if we wanted to go home it was best to do so earlier than later, though the colege would be open for the night if nessacary. No way I could get home from London brige and no classes for the day so decided to go keep Dave company at Victoria - as he was stuck there after going up for a rehearsal. Got together an A-Z for a good 3 or 4 mile walk but thankfully I got a lift to Waterloo so didnt have to walk for hours! got to Victoria in about half an hour or so and waited for about an hour and they finally reopened Victoira station at about 3.30ish. ALL trains delayed, unsurprisingly. Think people were just geting on any old train to get out.
Quite a day - and back on the tubes this morning for rehearsal. Joy.

*huggs TW*
*hugs all London peeps*
Sorry I haven't gotten to the board sooner. Things have been busy, and I got confirmation from Memphis the other day that you were all okay.
Like I mentioned in LiveJournal, if any of you need anything just let me know. I remember how everyone in the UK took a second to let my family know that they were there for us after 9-11, so I'd like to return the favor.

There were 4 'incidents' basically there would have been 4 explosions if the bombs had been made properly, instead only the detonators went off.... 1 guy was seen fiddling around in his backpack and then he threw himself on it as smoke was pouring out, he them jumped on to the tracks and ran down the line. I think that was the one person who was slightly injured and was arrested. Apart from that no other casualties and there was a bit more disruption on the tube.*YAWN* You know, if these terrorists REALLY want to scare the British public they should fix the tube so every line is open and all running to time, and all the busses were running to schedule that really would be terrifying to the British! ETA- there has been someone shot dead by undercover police on a train in Stockwell this morning... Not nice for everyone else on the train to witness. I'l try and remember to keep this thread up to date so people not able to get to british news can keep track if they want. news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/ is a good place to keep up to date on things if you really want to know

Seems these bomb attempts were the same manufacture as the devastating ones of two weeks ago, however the explosives have a very short shelf-life, so 2 weeks on, they failed to damage anything... talk about embarrassing....
Still, WAY more people die crossing the road in london than from terrorist attacks. (and I've just started driving lessons.... )

Like I say, death on london's roads is not rare at all..... actually, there was a nasty accident at the roundabout at the end of my road a couple of nights ago - while I was working in my bedroom, heard sound like tin can being stomped on, and screaming- car up on its side, driver's door downwards, another car scrunched into its underside. within 5 seconds, there were half a dozen people calling an ambulance, reassuring woman trapped in car and driver of the other car. 10 seconds, people were re-directing traffic away, blocking off the other end of our road, and a nurse (next door neighbour) was out there to help. 3 minutes, first of three fire engine/rescue trucks turned up 4 minutes, at least 1 ambulance arrived (I think there was a second out of sight round the corner...) 5 minutes, all three fire engines arrived, team assessing that driver was shaken, and trapped, but not badly hurt. So rescue operation proceeded slowly and carefully. 20 minutes on, Police car screeches up to attend... taped off the road (already traffic free- accident blocking roundabout and traffic already directed away at far end of road) took statements, and noted that procedure was being followed. The fact that this horrific-looking accident was so injury-free and dealt with sooo quickly and smoothly actually makes me more secure about driving. Due to the location of our house, we get sirens going by a lot, ambulances up to the hospital, police from the police station in Sutton, Fire engines up to trouble spots, but I find them a rather comforting presence- they're there when they're needed.
