Everyone hunts for their stick, whittles it down to a spike at the end (for easy marshmellow skewering), and sits around the campfire. Singing songs, telling ghost stories, watching funny little skits. you mean people actually DID stuff like that.. i mean, outside of the movies/tv shows? wow..... i feel so sheltered.. we just had a BBQ and shishkabob sticks... we didn't widdle our sticks, just broke the branches off of them and shoved the marshmallow onto the blunt end.
now that i think back, it would have been much nicer to widdle them....

My mom was a kick-ass scout leader. We also did backpacking, white-water rafting, and rock climbing. We were the only troop in our area that did that sort of stuff. The others were just an organized teeny-bopper after-school hangout. And yes. Whittled sticks are easier to impale marshmellows on before doing the impression of an Olympic torch bearer, which must be done by at least one person per campfire.

haha, we shoved our sticks in blunt ended too. It's bad when you get the soggy ones, and bark gets in your marshmallow... yick. We have an outdoor firepit at our holiday farm in the mountains. It's by a lake, and it gets kinda cold (as compared to here) so's good for fires. Good place to set off fireworks too. Sshh. Heh... kids and fireworks... good mix.

Mallows roast best over candles. It's far more controlled.

Hey, In my Uncle Jeff's Boy scout camp, we had Pine wood derbys. Then we went out of our way to forge the Red river with homemade rafts. From there it was only a two mile hike to the girlscout camp. There we usually waited quietly untill the girls went to the showers (they always went in groups) or to the lake to swim.
Raiding the girlscout camp for things like Bra's Panties, and their flags was fun. Especially when one replaced their flags with their troop leaders panties, bra's, and assorted other clothing.
Of course we also did the stick whiddling thing with our pocket knives. But we used these sticks to hang stolen clothing on throught the woods.
Sometime we even put honey in their sleeping bags.
Till this day, I can't figure out why my little brother and I were kicked out. ((Shruggs))

Isn't that poisonous?! Think I heard something like that. sooty I don't think so, unless you go dipping the marshmellows in the hot candle wax... My friend likes to make bonfires in her backyard when we have parties. Then we make the marshmellows BURN. They don't really taste so great, but it's still fun. ~Chi

they should do it on 'myth busters!' That's a show? How.... lame. ;D I heard that roasting them over gas stoves isn't good. Yay for girlscout camps! At all our school camps, we have to share one big shower block for every boy, and the girls get one bathroom between four! So not fair... But they *are* on the same camp as us. eehehehe.
